The PUFFINS:
They will have mostly moved on by August, however the RSPB Sea Bird Centre is open right through to September with other sea birds and views to take in. There will be an island tour bus ‘Puffin Bus’ to take us there costing £5 return. On arrival to the Sea Bird Centre there is another fee for Non-RSPB Members:
Adults £5.00
Children / Concessions £2.50
Under 5yrs FREE
RSPB Members FREE
The plan is to take the Puffin Bus as soon as we arrive in Rathlin Harbour. We will spend around an hour peering through binoculars and taking a tour of the refurbished lighthouse. There are also coffee and toilet facilities available on site. Returning bus will take us back to the village where The Ramblers will make our way to the southern lighthouse and pack lunch with the seals.
RAMBLERS OPTIONAL WALK:
The walk route covers around 4 miles and begins at Rathlin Harbour. Following a straight tarmac road leading south on the peninsula.
Passing Craigmacaghan Lough and following on down to the Southern Lighthouse, where hopefully we get to have our lunch with a large congregation of Seals.
Retracing our steps back up the road we will come across a wooden gate and a RSPB information panel highlighting the Roonivoolin Reserve. Through the gate we will follow wooden way markers across the open field(which can be mucky), arriving at the fence along the cliff tops. From here stunning views of the cliffs, Church Bay and the Northern Irish coastline can be enjoyed.
This section of the walk-route takes an hour each way so even with stop-offs for photo-ops and lunch we should be back to the Harbour in plenty of time to sample some of the local hospitality before our 5.30 ferry home.
PREPARE FOR THE WEATHER:
Bring a packed lunch and flask (especially if you choose to Ramble)
Bring a good waterproof. (Walking shoes/boots if you choose to Ramble)
HIGHLIGHTS:
Along with the Harbour and beach the village has a few shops, cafe, bar/restaurant, gallery, two churches that are open to view and a Tourist Information Centre.
Speak to Evelyn for further details, or if you need a lift.

MWI End of Year Outing

The MWI annual end of year outing proved very promising as the ladies met at 10am on Saturday morning. As the coach arrived along with the sun also making an appearance, there was time to take just a few moments before heading off for everyone to pose for a group shot.

The day began in sunny Dungannon and the Linen Green, with morning coffee in The Yard. Then heading off to Killyman and St Andrew’s Parish Church to their fund raising exhibition ‘Four Seasons and a Wedding’. There we also got to enjoy, with kind permission, to chance to sit in a few of the motor exhibits.

Next we were hijacked by the minister and whisked off to lunch, served up my the lovely ladies of the parish. We couldn’t have received a warmer welcome and would sincerely like to thank all those envolved for extending their hospitality and wish them all the best in their building venture.

After lunch, back on the coach and off to Cookstown for a bit of retail therapy and an attempt to pick up a bargain ‘souvenir’.

Thank you Sandra Conroy for all your organising, we really had a fab day. Looking forward to Septembers programme and all you have in store for us. Enjoy your summer ladies!

A good old Mossley send-off

Sunday past was Pentecost, where we gathered in morning worship led by Darrin Thompson. Treated for one last time to Darrin’s wisdom and teachings where after completing his training in June, moves on to take over as Minister in Enniskillen and surrounding Methodist circuit.

It was wonderful to welcome Darrin’s family and friends as they joined with us for this mile stone occasion. At the conclusion of the service we were able to show our thanks and appreciation as Alison Todd, our Society Steward, presented a gift from the congregation. Then in true Methodist style we had a lovely time of fellowship over lunch supplied by the ladies of our church. (click on the images below to enlarge).

Although this is something Darrin wanted to avoid, he was compelled to write later that afternoon on social media:

“I told myself I wouldn’t do this status so here I am being a liar lol!
I’m just totally blown away by the love and generosity I have been shown by the folks of Mossley Methodist Church! Today was my last service with them and it’s a very sad one for me because from week 1 I was made the feel part of the church family and I will truly miss them all! Thank you all for the gifts and for the wee messages you wrote for me, you had this big Larne man in tears!!! My hope and prayer is that as a church you all continue to persevere in Christ and continue to stand up for him! Thank you again to all of you and please anytime you are in Enniskillen do come and visit”

Below are added just a few of the responses, as we read them, we just want to take time and pray for you Darrin, wishing you joy and peace in all God has planned for you.

Now with that said, I’m sure I can speak for everyone in saying thank you Darrin for the time you spent working with us and becoming an extended member of our church family in Mossley.

Maybe in Gods good timing there will be a chance to hear the ‘quiet man with the BIG voice’ preach to us.

You can tune in to Darrin’s final Lesson on Pentecost (and previous sermons) by going to our LISTEN page.

Mossley Barn Dance Fundraiser

Brilliant crack last night! Thank you Debra Reynolds for putting on the Best Barn Dance EVER! Also a special thank you to all her friends and family who contributed everything from the decor, hauling bales of hay and supplying a yummy supper!

We all certainly had a lot of laughs and a great deal of FUN, it definitely raised the roof AND hopefully some money towards our new chairs for the church!

…finally a big well done to everyone who attended and shed their inhibitions. Everyone pretty much danced their fair share all night to the wonderful sounds of the Accordion played by Ronald Magowan and the lovely Doreen his very talented (and patient)caller’??

Now is the question of how many people will actually be able to get to church this morning without the aid of pain relief … see you at 11am (courtesy of Mr Brufen). O Lord, Please help me out of bed iow! 🙂

The Passing of a GREAT Lady

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Renee Peoples.

Renee’s battle against long term illness came to an end on the afternoon of Friday 5th of February 2016. Condolences, thoughts and prayers go out to Arlene, David and to all the family.

Friend of all, enemy of none can sometimes be given as a label to Methodists; it’s safe to say that many of our congregation believe that this was true of Renee, a monumental Methodist!

Renee was a lady who only ever made you feel joy, and that it was time worth spent when having been in her presence.

Her dedication, support and energy for the church and indeed all the organisations was admirable …if only that energy could have been bottled and live on.

As a founding member of our church at Mossley, Renee was also a great attendee of the Methodist Women in Ireland. I know that the ladies of our Mossley MWI have lost a great friend and will feel deeply saddened at her passing.
For many years Renee opened her home and held one of the weekly groups. It was particularly well attended, and while providing a support network, it gave Renee herself great joy and encouragement. I don’t doubt there was a great deal of laughter there too.

And so it is that we will remember her in fonder, happier times …her love for singing, her encouragement and selfless support towards others, her love and prayers for her family, her infectious laugher and most of all her love of Jesus.

Our loss, Heavens gain …we will meet again dear friend and great lady.

The funeral service will take place in our church in Mossley on Tuesday 9th of February 2016 at 10:30am, followed by a service at Roselawn Cemetery.
