Gifts For Life – alternative gifts for Christmas

Maybe not everyone would be delighted to get a Christmas gift like this,

BUT, in some parts of the world, these are perfect gifts:

1. In Ethiopia, farmers need watering cans to water their vegetables. They live in a very dry place and
they are using new farming methods so that they can grow more food.

2. In Zimbabwe, many people in rural areas do not have clean safe water. However, they are putting in
special pumps that can bring up water from underneath riverbeds that appear to be dry but where
there is actually good clean water; you just can’t see it.

3. In Ghana, poor farmers are given goats to breed. They use the manure for their crops and sell the kids
for extra income. They also give some of the kids to other farmers to get them started.

In all these stories, our Methodist Church in Ireland (through World Development & Relief) is helping local

people to make these things happen.

MWI @ Mossley – Dates for your diary

Hello ladies, please find the years dates for MWI Monday night meetings and events. We hope you find practical help and inspiration from all our guest speakers. Notable evenings would be insight into Domestic Abuse in January,  plus animal-lovers will definitely enjoy Dogs as Therapy 🐾 in March. The Christmas Dinner is always a winner, book your place and why not bring along a friend, the more the merrier!

Kicking us off ON MONDAY 2ND are the return of the very entertaining and faithful servants Christine & Rosmary, bringing us an update to their mission work. Two ordinary ladies with a vision and a Mighty God on their side! YOU CAN HELP: by having a look in your cupboards and drawers and bringing along anything you think Christine & Rosemary could sell at their car boot fundraisers.

It is with great sadness

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dearly loved sister in Christ, Alice Woods.

Late into Saturday night in Ashwood House nursing home after a series of ongoing illnesses Alice left us to be with her Saviour.

All of us here in Mossley extend our deepest sympathy, love and prayers to her husband Ned, daughters Sandra and Ellen, and sons Edward and Samuel. Also to her extended family, her many grand children and great grand children.

The funeral service will take place in Mossley Methodist Church on Thursday 7th September at 10am, followed by 11:30am at Roselawn Crematorium.

Alice was a founding member who sat on the committee that established our Methodist church here in Mossley.

She had a deep love and commitment to the church and the people in it, and for many years was a guiding influence in many church matters. She was especially passionate for the MWI, the ladies in it will be deeply saddened at her passing. Alice for years attended church home group and believed strongly in prayer ministry, always attending prayer and bible study.

Over the years whatever the church was running, from community based fetes and themed fun events to Missions and fundraisers, Alice gave fully of her support and service. She loved seeing young people in the church, this was shown through her championing JMA – Junior Mission for All – encouraging the Mossley children to be aware of and support annual global projects, and they in turn were awarded badges and certificates through their fundraising.

Alice was a lady small in stature, but was truly monumental in her loyalty, wisdom and service towards Mossley Methodist and the church family. Our friend and sister we are so thankful for you and will miss you deeply.
