Our church family at Mossley have been hit a heavy blow this week at the passing of our dear brother Cyril Kelly. For many years now Cyril as our Property Steward has been tireless in maintaining our church building and grounds. No one will ever fully know the extent of time, care and attention he gave. Cyril was notorious for avoiding praise or accolades and he most defiantly would not have appreciated this. Now that he is gone however, we must acknowledge his service, for he was ever working humbly in the background, (often with Vivien working by his side) making the building, halls and rooms fit for worshiping the God he loved.
With current circumstances, it will be a while yet to come before the halls and rooms Cyril cared for are brimming over with the sound of singing, chatter and laughter. When it does happen however, one much loved voice will be deeply and sadly missed.
A favourite scripture of Cyrils, John 14: 1-7…
1 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God[a]; believe also in me. 2 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.4 You know the way to the place where I am going.”5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”
On behalf of everyone at Mossley Methodist, the church leadership would like to extend our love and sympathy to Vivien and all the family – notably their children Leanne, Christopher, Iain and partners. Along with their six grandchildren Jenna, Lillia, Charlie, Lauren, Joe and Ceejay.
Due to Covid-19 and in line with current restrictions a private funeral service will be held.
